Losing a loved one is difficult, but the holidays can be an especially tough time. A grief counselor at Paris Community Hospital says joining a grief support group can help you feel less alone and realize your feelings of sorrow are normal.
The grief counselor suggests looking at holiday traditions and see if you want to keep or change them.
The counselor also says if you are invited to a holiday get-together, go if you want to go or say no if you don’t. If you do go, tell the hostess before-hand that you may need to leave early or go into another room once in awhile, that you will be o.k., but might need a little space.
If you’re a friend of someone who lost a loved one, the best thing you can do is be a good listener.
