Two Bodies Discovered Just Miles -- and Hours -- Apart in Casey, IL

Police are looking for answers in Casey, Illinois.

This after two dead bodies were discovered there on Wednesday, just over twelve hours apart - and just miles from one another.

Something officials are stressing at this point is that they don't believe these investigations are connected at this time - just coincidence both bodies were discovered on the same day.

NBC 2 arrived on the scene just before 1 p.m. Central time on Wednesday, and state and local police were already hard at work.

They were taking pictures and surveying the scene.

The Clark County Coroner did confirm skeletal remains had been found here.

At this time officials aren't releasing any other details.

They say they're working to uncover more information.

Overnight in Casey, firefighters discovered another dead body inside a house on fire in the 700 block of Jefferson Avenue.

The victim was identified as Gregory Scott Collins.

The coroner is calling his death a homicide.

Neighbors were shocked to learn of Collins' death.

"It's a sad thing and you know kind of shocking," said Don Davis of Casey. "He was a nice guy, I knew Scott for years, and we were really close but we talk whenever we would see each other, and we always phone. He was a pretty nice guy.

An autopsy on Collins body was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Terre Haute.

Those results have not yet been released.
