Travel advisories explained

A travel advisory means that some travel may be restricted. A watch means travel is restricted to trips to and from work and for emergencies. A travel warning means only emergency workers should be out and about.

Vigo County was downgraded Tuesday to a travel watch, along with Parke and Vermillion Counties.

Sullivan County will also switch to a level 2 watch Wednesday at 6 a.m. All their county and city offices will re-open Wednseday.

What do all these different levels of travel advisories mean?

The lowest level is a travel advisory. This means that routine travel or activities might be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and you should use caution.

The next level is a travel watch, where only essential travel, like to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended.

The highest level is a travel warning; this is where roads are closed except for emergencies.
