TH Churches Host Prayers for Peace at Pope's Urging

A decision on U.S. military action in Syria is still hotly debated across the country, and during this time of tension, Pope Francis is asking all Christians to pray for peace in Syria, the Middle East and throughout the world. Here in Terre Haute, St. Joseph's Parish was filled with people. Nearly 25 people came out for the hour-long prayer service and vigil. Nearly 25 people came out for the hour-long prayer service and vigil.

Those taking part say it's important come together and ask for a peaceful resolution to be made.

"Situations in the world, wars, problems, different things that may seem impossible for us to change, we can through prayer and perseverance make a difference here and for people around the world, especially the people in Syria," said Friar Matthew Maleck of St. Benedict's Church, who was helping with the vigil.

Several other Valley churches also hosted vigils on Saturday.

Pope Francis hosted a peace vigil in St Peter's Square, marking the first time any such peace rally has been held at the Vatican.
