Terre Haute Police Grow Beards for Charity

Officers at the Terre Haute Police Department are allowed to grow out their beards each month if they donate to the beard fund. That money then goes to a different charity each month. Monday night, Chief John Plasse donated $1,000 from the fund to Vigo County Schools' Weekend Backpack Program.

Vigo County Schools received a gift from the Terre Haute Police Department Monday night.

The $1,000 donation will go toward Vigo County Schools' Weekend Backpack program.

Officers are allowed to grow out their beards each month if they donate to the beard fund. A different charity is chosen each month. Chief John Plasse says it's important for the police department to put a smile on kid's faces this holiday season.

"To help needy families in our community, but this time of the year with the holidays, some people aren't going to have as good of holidays as others so if someone doesn't have food like the basics that's really sad so we're just trying to make sure there's enough to go around. At least have food this holiday season," said Chief Plasse.

The Terre Haute Police Department has donated over $10,000 dollars to charity around the city this year.
