Terre Haute Fire Department Gets Bank Account Boost

The Terre Haute Fire Department received a $1.5 million grant from the federal government. The money comes from the SAFER Grant. Anderson and Hammond were also awarded grants.
The Terre Haute Fire Department will be getting a $1.5 million dollar boost to their bank account.

Senatory Donnelly announced Friday the city is one of three fire departments to receive the SAFER grant.

SAFER stands for Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response.

This is the first time THFD has been awarded the grant.

Chief Jeff Fisher says they will be using the money to get back up full staff.

"It's 10 more firefighters that help protect the city," said Fisher. "I know the police department has received SAFER grants in the past and were able to hire, so for us to be able to do this, especially when we didn't know if we were going to be able to hire."

Anderson, Ind. and Hammond, Ind. also received SAFER grants from the federal government.
