The statue of "Larry Legend" is hidden for now.

But the excitement surrounding its unveiling on Saturday is already on full display.

"I'm very excised it's not very often that Larry Bird comes to Terre Haute," Collin Prendergast, an ISU senior said.

"This is a once in a lifetime not only for him and his success, but just for the community," Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said.

"I'm really looking forward to it, everybody is," Joyce Majewski of Terre Haute said.

Majewski stopped by the Hulman Center Friday morning hoping to catch a sneak peak of the 15-foot statue.

It's something she's suprised didn't come to town sooner.

"This is long overdue and i'm glad its finally happening the statue is just awesome," Majewski said.

ISU students lined up for tickets to the school's tribute program for Bird on Friday.

A chance for them to help recognize one of their own with the help of some famous faces.

"I heard Quinn Buckner, Bill Walton, and Jackie MacMullan are going to be there," Jake Fleenor, an ISU senior said.

All of them in Terre Haute to honor a man known for changing basketball, Terre Haute, and ISU forever.

"They're not going to top Larry Bird, that's for sure. But whoever shows up that will be wonderful because he deserves it all and more," Majewski said.
