Tech Talk-Winter Weather Apps

Handy for travel
When bad weather threatens we want to know when and where it will start.  Check out the new Forecast dot IO website.  It accesses the radar data available from the government, predicting rainfall and snow for your exact location by the hour.
The iPhone app is called Dark Sky.  It costs 3-99.  The Android app is Arcus Weather.
The Road Trip app for iPhone costs 1-99, but is really handy.  It provides a personalized forecast for your drive based on your destination and arrival time.  Enter your route and departure time and weather data populates on the map, showing potentially hazardous conditions.
Then there's the free winter survival kit app on on the iPhone and Android platform.  It comes in handy if you find yourself stranded.  It helps you identify your exact location, call 9-1-1 and notify your friends and family.  It also calculates how long you can run your engine to keep warm and stay safe from carbon monoxide poisoning.  This one is from North Dakota State University, a place where they really know winter.
