Swope Art Museum gets donation to repair windows

The 100+ Women Who Care group donated $21,000 to the Swope Art Museum to replace windows in an effort to control the temperature and humidity.

Terre Haute is very fortunate to have an art gallery with the quality and reputation as the Swope Art Museum.

Thursday it received a very generous gift to use in an important way.

The 100+ Women Who Care organization in Vigo County presented a check to the gallery for $21,600. The money will be used to replace five windows on the third floor of the building.

The new windows will not be just for decoration. The frames of the window are in bad shape and the replacements will provide much needed control of temperature and humidity.

As a museum what we need, one of the things we need most of all is to have a good stable climate and so having new windows will help us stabilize our environment and so it's a wonderful thing for us to have this donation,” says Marianne Richter, executive director of the museum.

The third floor windows were quite old. It's not clear how long the project to replace them will take.
