Statesman Towers Demolition Halted

The Statesman Towers were set to be demolished over the university's winter break.
The demolition of two buildings on the Indiana State University campus is on hold.

The Statesman Towers were set to be demolished over the university's winter break.

A proposal from a development firm based out of Indianapolis halted those plans.

The university would not comment on the specifics of the proposal, but said remolding the building for use as a residential space would be ideal.

"They were originally designed as student housing so that would be a probably easier renovation if you will. They're two 15-story towers so that is a lot of square footage," Diann McKee, VP of Business Affairs said.

A decision on the proposal is expected in the next four to six months.
