St. Mary-of-the-Woods ready to start work on rec center

St. Mary-of-the-Woods College announced Friday night at the Pomeroy Pride Gala that the college is ready to begin construction on an $11 million sports and recreation center.

A Wabash Valley college has a historic announcement to make.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods College President Dottie King announced at Friday night's Pomeroy Pride Gala that the college is set to start work on a new sports and recreation center this year.

King says it's been almost 40 years since St. Mary's has seen new construction. This project has been 10 years in the making. King says her students and faculty are looking forward to being able to host home games.

"I feel a great of gratitude because it didn't happen without the help and energy of so many people. And Terre Haute has embraced this project and been so good to us, so it's humbling, too," says King.

The $11 million project isn't completely funded, but king says they're getting close to the end.

Construction is set to begin the first week of December and will take about 10 months.
