The Marine Corps' Toys for Tots effort is underway in the Wabash Valley and to help the cause NBC 2 sponsored a Toys for Tots drive Friday at the Indiana Theater.
The Marines have been collecting toys for children in need for more than 60 years. Indiana Theater was a drop off site all day Friday.
The Marines say they're able to serve so many families each year because of the community's generosity:
"Last year we did over 3,000 families which was phenomenal. The biggest thing is new, unwrapped toys--unopened as well. We take monetary donations [and] we go out and buy the toys ourselves," says Gunnery Sgt. Richard DeBoy.
It's not too late to help the cause. You can still drop off toys at places like Toys R Us, Big Lots, Menards and Walgreens.
They'll be collecting Saturday at Terre Haute's east-side Walmart from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
