Meijer: One Step Closer

The Vigo County Area Planning Commission gave a favorable recommendation for Meijer to move forward with the building process. Next, they need to appear before city council for final approval of the land to be used for a commercial building.
Meijer is one step closer to opening a store on Terre Haute's east side. Wednesday, the Vigo County Area Planning Commission gave a favorable recommendation for the land to be used for a commercial building. It was originally used for agriculture.

The future site of the retail store is on the corner of U.S. 46 and New Margaret Ave.

Greg Gibson owns the land now but Meijer will buy the land from him.

Executive Director of Area Planning, Darren Maher, says bringing Meijer to Terre Haute provides several benefits to the city.

"They plan on having a store develop out there, it's going to be a rather large store," said Maher. "Very, very nice for our community and it will be the beginning of a miniature commercial node. So we're very excited about it."

Next, Meijer will seek approval from the Terre Haute City Council. That meeting is November 14.
