Mayor Proclaims October As Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett proclaimed October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Tuesday, as he helped light pink ribbons on top of the Vigo County Courthouse dome. The ribbons will remain lit during the entire month of October.
A powerful glow of pink is now lighting the Terre Haute sky, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mayor Duke Bennett proclaimed October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month as he helped light the eight foot, pink ribbons on top of the Vigo County Courthouse dome.

He says the lighting of the ribbons promotes awareness and serve as a reminder of how breast cancer impacts so many people's lives.

"The new ribbons went up a few years ago and for everybody that comes through our community, whether you live here or not, you'll see that this community supports breast cancer awareness and the fight against breast cancer. So, on the newly painted courthouse, they'll be able to see the beautiful pink ribbons and that's kind of what it's all about, raising awareness," says Mayor Bennett.

The ribbons will remain lit for the entire month of October.
