Local Chapel Continues Appeal for Church Status

A Seelyville Chapel stripped of its church status a year ago, is continuing the fight to re-open.
A year ago, the Archdiocese's of Indianapolis demoted Holy Rosary in Seelyville from church to chapel. Three other churches in the Terre Haute area were closed as well.

As the Tribune-Star reports, chapels can hold baptisms, weddings and funerals, but only hold Mass once a year on its anniversary date.

A parish  member told the paper the chapel has hired a Vatican lawyer to represent it. The next step of the appeal could be heard within a few months.
