Light House Mission passed out more than 1,000 Thanksgiving baskets Tuesday.
Light House Mission passed out more than 1,000 Thanksgiving baskets Tuesday.

A  longtime tradition that turned into a community project this year.

People lined up early Tuesday to pick up their baskets.

The funds to purchase the food came completely from community donations.

This year Light House Mission didn't have enough money to cover the project.

That's when various community organizations and groups stepped up to help fill the void.

"It's wonderful to know that people care. Even though times are as tough as they are for folks we're able see folks send in $10-$15 and say hey this is to help a family out," Rev. Timothy Fagg, CEO of Light House ministries said.

With the help of Terre Haute Ministries and private donors, Light House Mission raised more than $17,000 to make this project possible.
