INDOT Changes Traffic Light in Vincennes

Drivers in Vincennes may have noticed a new traffic signal in town. It's at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Old Wheatland Road. The horizontal light flashes yellow for left turns. Before you could only turn on the green light, but now, cars can turn if there's a break in oncoming traffic.
Drivers in Vincennes may have noticed a new traffic signal in town.

It's at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Old Wheatland Road.

Before you could only turn on the green light, but now, cars can turn if there's a break in oncoming traffic.

Research shows these lights move the flow of traffic and can actually reduce accidents - but officials want to make sure everyone is aware of the change.

"Use caution when approaching an intersection. Very important. Don't become complacent in your driving habits. This is something new and something different and then always expect the unexpected. It's the holiday season so there are a lot of out-of-town travelers in the area so just use caution and be on your toes," said Cher Elliot, spokesperson for INDOT's Vincennes District.

INDOT plans to replace many traditional signals with the flashing yellow arrow.

Next up in the district is at U.S. 50 and I-69.
