Hometown Heroes-Eddie Velez

Lance Corporal Eddie Velez has been in the Marine Corps for around 2 years, has spent a tour of duty in Afghanistan, and is now headed to Japan. Joined the Corp as very young man. Son and grandson of Veterans.

Our latest Hometown Hero is Marine Lance Corporal Eddie Velez. Corporal Velez spent most of his life in Terre Haute and joined the Marine Corp at an early age. In fact, he celebrated his 19th birthday at boot camp in San Diego and was in Afghanistan just days after he turned 20.

Corporal Velez is a 2011 graduate of Terre Haute South Vigo High School and enlisted even before he graduated.

His two-year stint in the service has taken him to Afghanistan where his unit replaced one at Camp Bastion. After a job well done he returned to the states in May of this year and is currently stationed at Cherry Point, North Carolina.

His grandfather and mother are both veterans so it's easy to see why our latest Hometown Hero is Marine Lance Corporal Eddie Velez.
