Holiday Shopping in Full Force

We're down the wire to make those final Christmas purchases, and shoppers came out in the masses on Saturday, to make sure they can get everything under the tree in time. For some it's a tradition to wait until the last minute to buy those special gifts, and others just haven't had the time. But regardless of the reasoning, on Sunday, Honey Creek Mall was the place to be.

"The weekend before Christmas is always busiest. We have lots of people here today, and it's a busy shopping day at Honey Creek Mall," said Jennifer Turner, assistant general manager of the Honey Creek Mall.

Twas the Saturday before Christmas, and nobody's shopping is done.

"I was putting it off, hoping it wouldn't happen as quick as it did, but it did," said one shopper.

Surveys by retailmenot.com and Consumer Reports, predict nearly 90 percent of residents will shop this weekend.

"You can get anything and everything and Honey Creek Mall. We've got everything from Bath and Body to Victoria's Secret for the smaller gifts. We have jewelry stores for the gifts that sparkle, and we have Macy's, JCPenney, Sears and Carson's where you can get pretty much anything," said Turner.

A customer adds: "There's always something to add to the list, and you forget once you get home and then you're out again."

But coming to the mall is a tradition for some, seeing all the lights and decorations can really bring some holiday cheer.

"A lot of people just like to get out, and it like to be part of the hustle and bustle, and I like the shop and just come to the mall and take part in the holiday spirit," said Turner.

A shopper adds: "I'm content just to watch the people."

And to get some final face-time with the big man himself.

"Everyone wants to see Santa Claus. Santa has been here since the first week of November, but still people want to come to the very last minute and come say hi and sit on his lap," said Turner.

And tis the season for the procrastination nation.

"People are going to be here of until the mall closes Christmas Eve. I think the mall is going to be busy busy busy up until Christmas Day," said Turner.

The mall has extended hours to help you get everything you need.

It's open on Sunday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

Monday from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m., and 8 a.m., to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
