Governor Mike Pence is praising Indiana's education efforts after new data shows the state's 4th and 8th graders demonstrated the second largest improvement rate last year on standardized math and reading tests.
Every year The National Center for Education Statistics and the U.S. Department of Education puts out what is known as the "Nation's Report Card."
Indiana 4th graders came in at number four in the nation for average math scores. The report also shows significant improvements from 4th graders in both math and reading.
The report shows important overall score gains with 8th graders.
Illinois percentages were listed as "not significantly different" from the nation's average.
