Runners in Clark County, Illinois braved the weather to see who could cross the finish line first.

We're talking about the fourth annual Polar Bear Dare at Mill Creek Park.

With a one-mile fun run, 5K and 10K races, the event had a competition for all athletes.

All of the money raised will go to help funding projects for the Clark County Park District Trails Coalition.

Those involved say despite the below freezing temperatures, around 70 people came out participate and help support the park system.

"The money helps us create more trails, make a trail safer and better and helps us get back to the community, and give it a place we can go out and enjoy the woods," said coordinator Josh Pickering.

The Clark County Park District Trails Coalition aims to promotes biking, hiking and running throughout the area.

Plans for next year's polar bear dare are already underway.
