Former Race Horses Up for Adoption

Nearly a dozen former racing horses were available, ranging in age from two to 12 years old. Students have been working with the horses all semester to help prepare them for adoption.
Horse lovers throughout the Valley got a chance to add a new member to their family on Saturday.

St. Mary-of-the-Woods hosted the Mari Hulman George Thoroughbred Adoption this afternoon.

Organizers say it's a great way for students to get some one-on-one training, and for these animals to find a new, loving home.

"Usually it's a classroom type atmosphere where you just explain the situation to the students, but here there brought horses and they have to do this hands-on, to get the horses prepared for today," said Angie McMillin, stable manager.

This was the first year for the horse adoption, and organizers hope to make it a bi-annual event.
