Flushed Fire Hydrants Cause Big Freeze

The slick pavement triggered three crashes Thursday morning involving five cars. One person suffered minor injuries. State highway crews later spread sand on the road at 3rd and Hulman, as well as 3rd and Ohio.
Drivers got a "crash" course about the danger of driving on ice at a busy intersection in Terre Haute on Thursday.

The hydrants were flushed at 3rd and Hulman on Monday, and  that water on the road froze overnight.

State highway crews later spread sand on the road at 3rd and Hulman, as well as 3rd and Ohio.

The company flushing the hydrants has been told to stop until the weather warms up.
