Flag Football Coming to Sullivan

Flag football in Sullivan will now be offered for kids in kindergarten through second grade. Sign-ups begin next month, and the season will kick off in April. Organizers say it's a fun, safe way to introduce kids to the sport, and hope it give these athletes a leg up on the competition.
While Dugger High School sports will be no more, that doesn't mean Sullivan County kids aren't getting to take the field.

"We felt like we needed to start our kids earlier. And Sullivan our football league starts at third grade, but in other towns they start at kindergarten. So we decided that we needed to start something here and Sullivan kids just to where kids can start in kindergarten and so when you get in third grade they already know the basic fundamentals of football," said Kevin Arnett, president of the Sullivan Youth Football League.

Sign-ups for the Sullivan flag football league will be held on February 7 and 21, from 4:30 to 6:30 at the Sullivan Activities Building.

Boys and girls in kindergarten through second grade are eligible to play.

The cost is $50 and each player will receive a reversible NFL jersey.
