The annual Keep Terre Haute Beautiful fall clean-up kicked off in Fairbanks Park Saturday morning.

Workers canvassed over 1,000 blocks collecting trash.

In coordination with the Year of the River, this fall clean-up targeted the park and areas near the Wabash.

Organizers say focusing on this area now will help us in the long run.

"With the objective to make sure that none of this litter can get blown into the river, and also because this is an area that needs to be cleaned up. Overall the objective of today is the make sure that we get all the litter cleaned up to keep Terre Haute beautiful," said Jane Santucci, director of Keep Terre Haute Beautiful.

The Keep Terre Haute Beautiful event happens twice a year. Volunteers will hit the streets again in May.
