Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly says the government shutdown back in October hurt Hoosier families and businesses. He says that's the reason he's decided to donate his salary made during the government shutdown.

The money will go to ten food banks across the state, including Terre Haute Catholic Charities.

Senator Donnelly says he hopes the donations help families.

"What we're trying to do is make sure that for each and every family, they have a chance to have a good meal and be able to take care of their children. I'm hoping that by donating those funds to the food banks, that will help that cause just a little bit," says Senator Donnelly.

Each of the food banks will get a check for $500.
