Dinner Raises Both Funds And Awareness

A local organization was serving up hot meals on Friday night to raise funds and awareness.

The Humane Society of Sullivan County held their second annual "Spayghetti and No Meatballs" event.

It included a spaghetti dinner, live entertainment and a silent auction. Over 75 baskets of goods were donated for the auction.

The event was a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Sullivan County, but it was also meant to raise awareness about the need to spay and neuter animals.

Officials say it's an important issue in Sullivan County.

"It's a big issue in Sullivan County because prior to 2009, we had nothing in this community. Our shelter is only four years old. We were starting from scratch, so every animal that comes through our doors and is adopted out is spayed or neutered," says Miranda Hay, the president of the Humane Society of Sullivan County.

The Humane Society says when you want a pet, remember to adopt, not shop. Also, if you want to donate or volunteer, contact the Humane Society of Sullivan County at 812-268-4201.
