Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller is applauding students for raising awareness about prescription drug abuse.

Indiana State University held its first-ever prescription drug drop-off event on Thursday. Zoeller also visited campus to speak on the issue.

He says the state is making progress with a prescription drug abuse task force. He also praised lawmakers for passing a number of bills on the issue and says doctors are being more careful not to over-prescribe medications.

However, Zoeller says it's not just adults who are at risk and he's happy to see people acknowledging the dangers that could be lurking inside medicine cabinets.

"That's where a lot of kids find these prescription drugs that are now all over the streets. One in five kids have admitted that they've taken prescription drugs that have not been prescribed to them, so this really is an epidemic," says Zoeller.

ISU students organized Thursday's prescription drug drop-off event.
