Vigo School Board Gives Final Approval for Pool Construction

The Vigo County School Board approved a bid from CDI Construction to build a new centralized pool. The $9.8 million facility will serve all three high schools as well as the community. Work can start Tuesday.

Construction on a multi-million dollar aquatic center is set to start Tuesday.

The project was given its final stamp of approval Monday night at the Vigo County School Board meeting.

The board approved a bid by CDI Construction to build the new centrally located aquatic center. It's a $9.8 million project that's been in the works for more than a year.

It'll be at Voorhees Park and serve all three Vigo County high schools. School officials say the existing pools are beyond repair.

"The new pool will meet the needs of our swim team, of the Torpedoes Swim Club and for those in water safety instruction and other activities," says Superintendent Danny Tanoos.

Tanoos says work on the new pool can start Tuesday.

Also at Monday's meeting, administrators recommended that Otter Creek principal Tammy Rowshandel take over as principal at Terre Haute South High School.
