So the Vigo County Republican Party kicked off the election season Saturday morning.

Dozens filled the Apple Club in Terre Haute for the first GOP meeting of 2014.

The guest of honor was current Marion, Indiana mayor, and former Olympic skater Wayne Seybold.

Seybold announced earlier this month that he will be running for state treasurer.

He hopes that his experience both on and off the ice will let him better serve Hoosiers.

"I've been involved in the process for a long time, and I know a lot of people around the state, legislators at the Statehouse. We've done budgeting in Marion for a number of years, and I think all that lends itself to what I think the state should be doing and that is really protecting local government as much as possible," said Seybold.

We'll have more on Wayne Seybold's Olympic look baclk, and what it's like to be part of team U.S.A., Sunday on NBC 2 News at 6.
