Area schools may be closed, but the local sledding hot spot was open for business.

Dozens of families made their way to Deming park in Terre Haute this afternoon.

Some used inner tubes while other stuck to the more traditional sleds.

The snow was packed pretty tight making for some nice runs down the hill.

Everyone NBC 2 spoke with said they were having a blast.

"It's a great time. You get to get out and spend time with the family even though the conditions aren't ideal. It's just really fun," Lee Poppel of Terre Haute said.

"Kids get cooped up long enough and they need to get out and blow off some steam," Mike Watts of Terre Haute said.

Sledding at Deming park is permitted from dusk to dawn as long as the snow is still on the ground.
