US 41 Construction Causing Headaches for One Business

Some businesses south of the mall are fortunate to have an entrance off US41. For one furniture store, they have an entrance but you wouldn't know it if you passed it.
Brian Kiefer has owned his furniture location since the late nineties. He used to sell only La-Z-Boys, now he sells all types of furniture. He said he's never seen construction on forty one quite like it is now.

"We've had some one or two day you know do a little work out in front of the store kind of situation but never anything like this," said Kiefer, store owner.

INDOT tells us that construction is scheduled for completion on August 31st.. Something that Kiefer will be happy to see-- but right now it's a bit frustrating.

"Road's going to end up being much nicer, traffic is going to flow better so you like to see that. But as someone with customers trying to get in the front door, it is tough. It's not good," Kiefer added.

Right now, Brian's store has a front entrance but it's not very visible given all the barrels along 41.

"It's just the barrels and if you don't know what gap in the barrels turns into your store then people are just driving by and by the time they realize they drove by the entrance, they're half a mile down the road from the store."

To get to Brian's store--- customers must get off 41 on Johnson Drive or at the Honey Creek Mall entrance. They then must enter from behind the Baskin Robbins on honey creek parkway. Brian says he has seen a dip in customers the last month.

"We had a lot of people that would just stop in. They saw the store and would just stop in. And that has cut back drastically," Kiefer explained.

But good news is right around the corner for Kiefer's Furniture Home, as crews should repair the front entrance in a matter of weeks.

"We will see some relief from what I understand in a couple or three weeks. And then complete relief by the end of the summer," said Kiefer.

The US 41 project will improve intersections of US 41 and Johnson and Davis Drives.

It will add an additional through lane southbound from Johnson to Davis Drive.

A left turn lane will be added for both north and southbound traffic at Davis Drive.
