Sullivan County Woman Found Dead in Snow

Officials believe the woman was outside between two and four hours before neighbors found her body in the snow.
"You're just going to be lost, because now you can't go see her, she meant a lot to everybody," Kimberlee Hurteau said.

Neighbors found 88-year-old Frances Phillips dead outside her home early Friday morning.

"It appears that sometime during the early morning hours she wondered away from her house, which she lives alone. Right now it's still under investigation," Sergeant William Sneed with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department said.

Officials believe Phillips was outside between two and four hours before neighbors found her body in the snow.

"We believe it was exposure from the cold temperatures that caused her to be deceased," Sneed said.

Kimberlee Hurteau, a long-time neighbor, remembers her friend's life as one well lived.

"She was so full of life, she never seen no negativity in anybody. She always wanted to help people. She was good to the kids in the community," Hurteau said.

Her death serves as a wake call for many in a close-knit community.

"It's very important to just check on your neighbor, if you can't make it over there just pick the phone up and call them make sure they're doing OK, see if they need anything," Sneed said.

"If you've got elderly neighbors or anything go check on, go check on them. Even if they have family, just go check on them. Because I wish we would have, more," Hurteau said.
