The school day for students in the South Vermillion School Corporation is about to get a bit longer.
Starting Monday the corporation will add an hour to its school day.
The extended day allows the corporation to make up its snow days.
Students have seven days to make up.
It will take six weeks operating under the extended schedule to make those up.
The extra instructional time comes as students are preparing for ISTEP.
"We want to make sure that our student growth is going in the right direction based on the ISTEP based on the predictors so that when they take the ISTEP we know that they're prepared as possible," Dave Chapman, Superintendent of South Vermillion School Corporation said.
The corporation surveyed parents about possible snow day make-up options.
More than 60% favored extending the school day.
