The Super Bowl is just hours away, but for Valley residents, Saturday was all about the "soup bowl."

Over 5,000 tickets were sold for the fourth annual Soup Bowl benefit.

That money goes to Terre Haute Catholic Charities, which helps families in eight valley counties.

In just a few hours, the event raised nearly $18,000. That's enough to provide close to 72,000 meals.

"Whenever we have had to chance to send a meal, to meet one on one or provide a meal for a family for a few days and get to see how happy and truly thankful they truly are. It's just an overwhelming experience," said Jennifer Buell, development director for Terre Haute Catholic Charities.

Local artists and North Vermillion High School art students made the bowls that were on sale.
