Sinkhole Repair Causes Sullivan Schools to Lose Internet

Workers accidentally cut a fiber cable while repairing a sinkhole.
Last night, workers were repairing another sinkhole when they accidentally cut a fiber that ran the Southwest School Corporation in Sullivan, IN.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon across from Sullivan High School.

While repairing a broken sewer line in the middle of the street off the intersection of Price and Section, workers came across a metal pipe.

Following protocol, the city contacted the Ohio Valley Gas Company who came out to the site and said the cable may be one of their old fibers no longer in use.

They then gave workers the approval to cut the fiber in question. When that happened--- the Southwest School Corporation lost internet.

The Indiana electrical company, ElectriCom, sent crews from all over the state to help repair the issue.

Their crews worked on the cables overnight. Finally at about 6:30 this morning, the school corporation's internet was back up and running.

The school corporation's technology coordinator, Brian Irwin, commended ElectriCom for their work.

"The main thing is Electric Comm stepped up way beyond the call of duty and got us back up so that we didn't have to cancel school today."

Brian Irwin says that it could've been a two to three day process but fortunately ElectriCom had a crew of nearly thirty guys out their repairing the cables.
