Several Trees Removed to Make Room for New Aquatics Center

Crews are clearing the way for a new pool at Voorhees Park in Terre Haute, and that prep work includes cutting down trees.
There have been concerns over the removal of trees at Voorhees Park.

Garmong Construction says 37 trees have to be removed from the park to make room for the Vigo County Schools' new aquatics center.

But there is good news: for every tree removed, three will be planted.

That means Voorhees Park will have an additional 111 trees.

"The new trees, you'll probably see go in place in March of 2015," said Lance Gassert, Garmong Construction's Operations Manager. "March is the optimum month for tree planting. The facility won't be quite ready yet but that is the true month to plant trees in to help ensure their survival."

The aquatics center is set to be complete and ready to use in August of next year.
