A plane crash left a 72-year-old man dead, and investigators looking for answers.

Officials say that crash happened just after 1:30 p.m. in Fountain County near the Rob Roy covered bridge.

That's about an hour north of Terre Haute.

The victim has been identified as Charles Coffing of Covington.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

First-responders tell Nbc 2 upon their arrival there was no fire from the crash.

They were able to speak with eye-witnesses to get a better idea of exactly what happened.

"The plane kind of two or three times and then came down nose first into the ground," Ed O'Farrell, Attica Fire Chief said.

Officials believe the plane was a home-built experimental aircraft, but approved by the FAA.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are now working together to find out exactly what caused the plane to go down.
