Performance Grant For Local School

Sara Scott Middle School in Terre Haute will receive almost $950,000 to help raise achievement levels.
Today, education officials announced that seven Indiana schools will receive federal School Improvement Grants.

Sara Scott Middle School in Terre Haute will receive almost $950,000. District officials say they'll use the money to hire five coaches to help with classroom instruction. The coaches will focus on specific areas including the basics of reading and writing.

Deputy Superintendent Karen Goeller says, "To really impact the classroom with five people co-teaching. So We'll have two teachers in several of the classrooms to provide the modeling and the coaching, the professional development. But also the support for the students. More hands, more knowledge, more concern, compassion, just helping boys and girls in the classroom."

The grant money will be used over a three year time period. A total of $8.5 million will go to the seven Indiana schools including Sara Scott.
