One Day You Could Be...

"One Day I Could Be..." is a way to show Valley kids that the possibilities are endless. Designed to raise awareness about the United Way's Success by Six Program, the book features 14 leaders from across the area, in the hopes of getting kids excited about their futures. Everyone featured in the book is from the Wabash Valley, to help these new readers connect with their stories.
A new book is coming to the Valley, and you may recognize some of the characters inside.

From a vet, to a barber, even a very familiar looking meteorologist, this new children's book is full of careers that every kid may enjoy.

For creator Marla Flowers, and author Ann Ryan, this book is more than just words on a page.

" It really was a long time dream and it was such a great project to start with, something I believed in," said Ryan.

"We want to not only encourage children to read, but to let them know and to educate them there are some really great careers right here in the Wabash Valley," said Flowers.

And these characters are people we all may know.

"Not only did we profile the individual person, but we tried to take out some of the core things that they love and then Showcase some other careers. So if you do like math, you can be a math teacher but you also might think about being a pilot or a sports analyst," said Ryan.

Flowers and Ryan say they hope these stories go further than just the children themselves, but can get the entire family involved.

"That will spark some conversations about, hey mom why do you do what you do? Or hey dad when did you know you wanted to be? And that really will then begin a lifelong conversation helping those kids find their passion," said Ryan.

Flowers and Ryan say they have already started talking about doing even more books together.
