Local Fire Department Recognizes Their Own

A local fire department honored its own tonight.
The night started with a moment of silence for former firefighter Mark Hinzy who died last month.

The Terre Haute Firefighters Pipes and Drums conducted the presentation of colors.

The night celebrated outstanding firefighters.

There were even few civilian awards for people who went above and beyond to save lives.

The votes were submitted by all firefighters in the department.

Doug Wuestefeld was named the EMT of the Year, while Scott Dalton was awarded the Firefighter of the Year award.

"I'm honored and humbled, but it's really not an individual award," added Scott Dalton. "It's an award for the fire department. I work with a lot of great guys who love to serve their community, and so it's an honor for us all."

Captain Sammy Lane, a retired Terre Haute firefighter, was the night's guest speaker.
