Law Enforcement Scam

Law Enforcement Scam

Local law enforcement are warning residents about a scam.
Local law enforcement are warning citizens of an old scam with a new twist. Earlier today, the Vigo County Sheriff's office received a call from a Vigo County resident who said she received a call and was told she had a warrent for her arrest. The suspect told the victim she could avoid the arrest by sending thirteen hundred dollars electronically over the phone. The victim reported that the caller ID read Vigo County Sheriff. She notified the department who were able to track the phone call to California.

Clark Cottom says, "No reputable law enforcement agency would be making a phone call to a residence to let you know that you have an arrest warrant for you. If you're receiving any of these calls, we want you to call local law enforcement and report it."

The scam has occurred nationwide. The sheriff's department is sending all of its information to law enforcement in California who will handle the investigation.
