IL State Treasurer Announces Bid for Governor

Illinois State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is aiming for a new office in the Land of Lincoln. He announced <a target="_blank" href="http://www.danrutherford.org/default.aspx">on his website </a>Sunday that he will run for the Republic nomination for Illinois Governor. The 58-year-old was elected Treasurer in 2010 after stints in the State House of Representative and Illinois Senate.

He announced on his website Sunday that he will run for the Republican nomination for Illinois Governor.

The Pontiac native wrote: "Now is the time for leaders to act with conviction and courage... Illinois is indeed broke -- but our great state is not beyond repair."

The 58-year-old was elected Treasurer in 2010 after stints in the State House of Representative and Illinois Senate.

Democratic Governor Pat Quinn has said he plans to run for re-election next year, but could face challenges within his own party, as Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley are considering runs.
