Our latest Hometown Hero is Mallory Russell from Lawrence County, Illinois. After school at Red Hill, she joined the Army in 2005 and became a cook. After training in South Carolina and Virginia, she was sent to Fort Lewis, Washington, then onto Germany. She worked in a dining facility each day until her unit was deployed to Iraq in 2008 when her life changed. About to come home, the humvee she was in was hit by an IED. She suffered a broken hip and back injuries. Mallory was honorably discharged but has had three surgeries since and is set for another in September. For sacrifices above and beyond, Mallory Russell is our latest Hometown Hero.
