The Wabash Valley continues to benefit from four people who died decades ago.

On Tuesday, 51 checks were handed out to local charities.

It's possible through trusts set up by Oscar Baur, Fredrick Benson, Mary Smith Young and Sheldon Swope.

This year, the funds topped $123,000 -- up from last year --  and First Financial Bank officials say that money can go a long way.

"It's a great way to start off the year and hopefully we can jump start some of the charities as far as their abilities to raise money through the year for all of the good work that they do in our community," said Cary Sparks, Senior Vice President of Trust Services.

First Financial Corporation also announced the 2013 contribution to the United Way of the Wabash Valley campaign. A total of $79,637 in corporate and employee pledges and contributions.

Charitable groups can apply for funds from these trusts by contacting:
Trust Services at First Financial Bank
One First Financial Plaza
Terre Haute, IN 47807

Written requests should explain why funds are being requested and how they will be used. They're due by November 15 of each year.
