Fallen Officer Rembered by Valley Community

Dozens were on hand to honor the life of Deputy Sheriff John Landrum.

An officer killed in the line of duty here in the Valley was rembered today.

Dozens were on hand to honor the life of Deputy Sheriff John Landrum.
   
Landrum was killed while responding to a domestic disturbance 25 years ago.
   
Saturday the Edgar County Sheriff's Department retired his badge number in a special ceremony.
   
The current sheriff told the crowd it's only fitting that no other officer will ever share that badge number.
   
He also praised the fallen officer as an american hero.
   
Several of his family members were on hand for the ceremony, including his widow. 

"We thank god for the blessings of the friends, the people everybody that's been in our lives, it's a very nice plaque we just really appreciate what everyone's done for us," Geneva Kay Landrum-Phillips said.

Also today, a portion of Route 150 between the Indiana state line and Paris was re-named John Landrum Memorial Highway.
   
State legislators pushed for the re-naming of the road in Landrum's honor.
   
The ceremony concluded with those in attendance driving the new route.
