Accident with injuries backs up rush-hour traffic

An accident in the northbound lanes of U.S. 41 and Gilchrist Drive Friday backed up traffic for about an hour Friday evening. Everyone involved was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Rush hour traffic came to a halt in southern Vigo County late Friday afternoon.

There was a crash at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Gilchrist Drive. The sheriff's department got the call just after 4 p.m.

We're told a truck was trying to turn onto Gilchrist by crossing over U.S. 41, but the driver didn't yield the right of way and was hit by an oncoming van.

The sheriff's department says everyone involved was taken to the hospital for non life-threatening injuries. Northbound traffic was shut down for about an hour while crews cleared the scene.
