Crews Battle Fire in Extreme Cold

Crews from Honeycreek, Seelyville, Riley, Sugar creek, and Prairieton were called-in to help.
Fire crews battled the arctic weather to fight a fire in southern Vigo County this morning.

The homeowner noticed the fire just after 10 a.m.

He and his family were able to escape the blaze.

Fire officials say the fire was "mostly" contained to the attic.

Crews from Honeycreek, Seelyville, Riley, Sugar creek, and Prairieton were called-in to help.

"Obviously with these weather conditions we called additional manpower. Also it took our crews a little bit longer to get here because of the road conditions," Josh Sittler, Honeycreek Battalion Chief said.

The home suffered major damage.

A cause for the fire is still under investigation.

Its a possibility a wood stove inside the home played a role.
