Terre Haute, IN - What's now an open space will become a summer destination for many children in Terre Haute. Chances and Services for Youth (CASY) plans a new splash pad next to the Booker T. Washington Community Center.
Right now, there's not much available to help the CASY kids. "We use a garden hose and a sprinkler, so anything is going to be better than what we have," said Brandon Halleck. "We're in the heart of the 13th street corridor, and working in this area, we have a lot of children who, one, lack transportation to a public pool. And two, if they make it there, they can't afford it. Not that the prices are high, but even for kids that we're serving, any cost is too much."
Which is why CASY decided to install a splash pad. It will feature, fountains, dumping buckets and water cannons. The pad will have added bonus of supplying water for the community center's garden.
The splash pad will be built this summer, it just needs donations to make it happen. The price tag is $45,000 and they still need between $5,000 and $10,000.
