Man Arrested after Foot Chase

Vermillion County, IN - A man is behind bars on a long list of charges after deputies say he led them on a foot chase.

On Tuesday, Vermillion County Deputies tried to stop a pickup truck on State Road 71 just north of County Road 800 South for speeding.

Deputies say the truck suddenly stopped and the driver jumped out, running into a muddy, flooded field.

Deputies say they also observed the driver throwing items from his pockets as he ran through the field.

Law enforcement was able to apprehend the man, identified as 48-year-old Tony Helton of Montezuma.

He was booked into the Vermillion County Jail on charges of Possession of Meth, Unlawful Possession of a Syringe, Possession of Paraphernalia, Possession of a Schedule I II III or IV Narcotic, Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Resisting Law Enforcement.

He was also cited for having an expired driver's license, false and fictitious registration plates and speeding.

Helton posted 10% of a $10,000 bond the following morning and was released with a court appearance date.
